Students win prizes for Library Week activities

This was held recently at the St Louis community centre in the presence of sponsors, teachers, head teachers and students from different schools across the country.

The theme for this year’s International Library Week was A key to the past, present and future which is in line with the Creole festival’s slogan En lizye lo pase, en lizye lo lavenir.

The activities for library week included chess, crosswords for students, crosswords for teachers, and reading quiz.

Beau Vallon secondary school took first place in the chess competition followed by English River secondary and International school.

CCATS, the Ministry of Education, the Seychelles Chess Federation, Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) and Air Seychelles sponsored the first prize.

The second and third finishers received prizes from CCATS, the Ministry of Education, the Seychelles Chess Federation and MCB.

The crosswords competition was contested by teachers and students. In the students’ category, first prize went to Sophie Preira followed by Tany Marcel in second place. Jessica Bistoquet and Gino Capricieuse tied for third position.

For this category, the prize for first place was sponsored by Minister for Education Macsuzy Mondon and Bel Air district administrator Alexandrine Zelia. Minister Mondon, MCB and Cable & Wireless sponsored the runner-up prize. Sponsors for third position were Nigel Ally, MCB and Cable & Wireless.

In the crossword category for teachers, first position went to Carole Jacques and she was followed in second and third places by Lakshmi Pugazhandhi and Shamina Barbé.

The prizes in this category were sponsored by the Ministry of Education’s documentation centre and English River secondary school head teacher Marie-Claude Morel.

Anissa Lépère and Aquila Denousse finished joint-first in the reading quiz competition, while Evelyn Quatre and Zahira Khattab were third. Sponsors for first prize were the Jj Spirit Foundation, Ms Marie-Claude Morel and MCB.

The two third place prizes were sponsored by Qatar Airways, MCB, William Herminie, elected member of the National Assembly for Mont Buxton Sheryl Vengadasamy, MCB and Cable & Wireless.
