Chinese embassy to fund district projects |26 November 2012

The agreement to fund the projects – which include road resurfacing and building pavements and bus shelters -- was signed on Friday at the district’s administration office by the two parties.

This was in the presence of Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Paul Adam, who is responsible for the Bel Ombre constituency, member of the National Assembly Galen Bresson and contractor China Shenyang Corporation represented  by Jin Li.

The company is also the contractor for large national undertakings, such as the Les Mamelles housing project, but Bel Ombre is the first community project it is undertaking in Seychelles.

Ambassador Zhongjun said this is the first time he has signed a contract for a community project, adding that he had urged the contractor to strive for quality.

The ambassador said this represents the kind of exemplary cooperation between his government and a Seychellois community, adding that we can all learn from such projects.

Some of the works have already been completed satisfactorily, the ambassador noted.

After the signing, the party went to inspect a retaining wall running on both sides of the lower ‘Lo site’ river. 

Mr Bresson noted that during heavy rain, there was heavy clogging of the river with gravel and debris, and water overflowed onto the roads and the gardens of some houses.

He said that altogether, three bus shelters will be built under the agreement.
The agreement also provides for pavements, starting opposite the Beau Vallon police station and running towards central Bel Ombre.

Several secondary roads at Bel Ombre will also be resurfaced over the next few months.

Mr Bresson added that most of the projects being undertaken are requests made by the residents.
