A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Victory Monument at the International Airport yesterday morning to mark Defence Forces Day. Those who took part in the event are seen here in a souvenir photograph in front of the monument

Members of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF) paid tribute to the brave men involved in repulsing the mercenary attack on Seychelles on November 25, 1981.

The first wreath was laid by the Minister for Home Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan, followed by chief of defence forces Brigadier Leopold Payet, chief of staff Lieutenant Colonel Clifford Roseline, Police Commissioner Ernest Quatre, senior officers of the SPDF and the Police Force among others.

On November 25, 1981 members of the SPDF defended their motherland with pride and dignity against foreign mercenaries.

Unfortunately, Second Lieutenant David Antat lost his life that day during the attack.
During the ceremony, blessings were given by Reverend Christine Benoit of the Anglican Church.

Other activities organised to mark Defence Forces Day this year include a special mass, an exhibition showcasing different sections of the SPDF and a tree-planting activity at Morne Blanc.
