Tennis-International school win inaugural Samsung tourney |05 December 2012

In the final, International school beat Ecole Française (EFS) 2-1. After they had each won a game on identical scores of 10-7, the third and last match between Theo Barois of ISS and Giovanni Capet of EFS proved to be the decisive encounter. In the end, the more experienced Barois held his nerve to win the match and give ISS the title.

Independent school finished third and this is seen as a good result for the school which has put a tennis programme in place this year.

Eight primary schools – International, Ecole Française, Independent, La Rosière, Plaisance, Cascade, Bel Ombre and Mont Fleuri – took part in the competition organised by the Seychelles Tennis Association.

It was compulsory for each team to have at least a female player and the organisers were happy to see that more girls came out to play than before. Coached by physical education instructor Laureen Poiret, Cascade school had the highest number of female players – four – on their team.

The association insisted that each team should have at least a female player in a bid to increase the number of girls practising the sport here.

The organisers have said that the next Samsung trophy will be played on November 30, 2013, but before that another school competition will be held in June 2013.

The final ranking: 1st International, 2nd Ecole Française, 3rd Independent, 4th La Rosière, 5th Plaisance, 6th Cascade, 7th Bel Ombre and 8th Mont Fleuri.
