Volleyball: Outsiders annual Praslin tournament-Outsiders, La Digue triumph

The La Digue women’s team

In the all-La Digue women’s final, La Digue, who have finished third in the first division league this year, beat La Digue Triers 2-0 (25-14, 25-21).

Drawn in pool A, La Digue beat Magpie Robins 2-1 (25-12, 18-25, 15-5) and La Digue Trials 2-0 (25-18, 25-19) to book a place in the cross knockout semifinals against Saints whom they dispatched 2-0 (25-19, 25-19).

After finishing second in the group phase, losing finalists La Digue Triers met group B winners Praslin Volleyball Club (PVC) in the semifinal and they won 2-0 (22-25, 26-24, 15-12).

The men’s final did not go the limit as it was becoming too dark and as decided prior to the start of the competition, the team who had scored the highest number of points won. Victory went to organisers Outsiders who after winning the final’s first set 25-10 were leading 6-5 in the second.

Players shake hands before the start of the men’s final

Like last year, only four teams took part in the men’s competition and they played in two groups of two. In the semifinals, Outsiders beat La Digue 2-0 (25-23, 25-14) and Anse Royale defeated BSA Spikers 2-1 (25-23, 22-25, 18-16).
