Olympic Solidarity-Local coaches learn how to better manage younger players |11 December 2012

The Olympic solidarity young basketball coaches’ level two was launched yesterday by the president of the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) Antonio Gopal at the national swimming pool at Roche Caïman.

Present at the launch were the chief executive of the National Sports Council (NSC) Alain Volcère, Socga secretary general Alain Alcindor and chairman of the Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) Sheila Ah-Kong.

The course is being conducted by Fédération Internationale de Basketball (Fiba) instructor Senegalese Seydou Sano.

Launching the course, Mr Gopal said Socga welcomes the idea of the SBF to promote basketball at different levels through its various programmes in place, especially with the younger ages.
This, he said, is very important as the children are the future of the sport.
Mr Gopal added that having young children with high interest in basketball is a sign of a prosperous future for the sport.

He also commended the effort of chairperson Ah-Kong and her team to promote the sports through the different programmes on their agenda.

On behalf of the SBF, chairperson Ah-Kong thanked Socga for hosting the course and urged the coaches to seize the opportunity to maximise their knowledge in their quest to help others in the future.

As for instructor Sano, he expressed his gratitude towards the local basketball and Olympic authorities for allowing him to conduct the course and urged the coaches to make the most of the sessions which he said will cover mostly (80%) practical sessions.
