Hockey-Barra and Germain best hockey players of the year

Local hockey players took part in seven competitions this year

Despite his team Anse Boileau finishing as league runners-up behind winners Plaisance, Barra personally displayed enough qualities to win the award, while Germain and her Grand Anse team topped the school girls’ competitions organised by the SHF.

According to the SHF chairman Sharo Valentin, who has reached the end of his two-year mandate, 2012 has been a successful year for Seychelles’ hockey.

Seven competitions, including an international one, were organised, while more school children have shown interest in the sport.

He explained that 15 schools registered for the inter-school competition aimed at introducing and promoting the sport at grassroot level.

Mr Valentin added that the prime target of the association for next year is to continue with the promotion of hockey at school level and organise more competitions.

Plaisance ended the year with a double after winning both the league and knock-out competitions, with Anse Boileau being the league’s runners-up. Beau Vallon finished third overall.

Meanwhile, double winners Plaisance will leave the country this week to take part in the Indian Ocean Championships which will take place in Reunion from December 14-17.
