New shopping plaza opens with flair on Eden Island

VP Faure addressing …

These were the words of Vice-President Danny Faure as he officially opened the plaza on Tuesday afternoon.

The ceremony was attended by cabinet ministers, principal secretaries and other high government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, the chief executive of Eden Island Craig Heeger, and the owner of the plaza Vijay Patel.

The large turn-out could appreciate the very modern facility, which has basement parking, shops, offices, medical facilities, spas, and more.

It also has an art gallery which will provide local artists with another venue to showcase and market their products.

Mr Heeger said the centre will employ around 600 people, out of which 300 will be new, permanent jobs.

“This centre will become a dynamic platform for business and leisure, and we also see it being a gathering place for all who live in Seychelles and those who visit here,” he said.
The plaza has 54 shops covering 6300 square metres, out of which only three were said to be available for rent at the time of the opening.

Mr Heeger added that almost all the shops have been rented out to Seychellois entrepreneurs.
Addressing the guests, VP Faure said the plaza is a clear testimony of what a group of investors with a clear vision can bring as contribution to our young economy.

“The Eden Plaza is a complex exquisitely designed for leisure, shopping, entertainment and cultural activities taking Seychelles to international standards, and I am sure it can hold its own against others in the region,” he said.

“It is a great example of private sector initiative with sound investment and I am sure that as such, it is firing the interest and venturesome spirit of others in the business community. My congratulations to Mr Patel for the Eden Plaza, which reflects a strong commitment to quality and aimed at taking Seychelles to greater heights in the commercial arena. It represents a re-investment in our economy.”

After cutting the ribbon to officially open the plaza, Mr Heeger unveiled the plaza sign at the entrance.

VP Faure and entourage were then led on a tour of the facilities by Mr Heeger and Mr Patel, while the other guests also visited the same and merged for a more light-hearted moment.
