National Assembly delegation visits Sri Lanka parliament |14 December 2012

Led by National Assembly clerk Azarel Ernesta, the delegation had the opportunity to observe a sitting as well as visit the various departments and offices of the parliament of Sri Lanka.

The delegation also comprised Derek Samson, Sri Lanka’s representative on the international affairs committee and sergeant-at-arms Glynny Laval.

The delegation’s study tour followed the official visit of President James Michel to Sri Lanka earlier this year and Speaker Patrick Herminie’s attendance of the Commonwealth parliamentary conference.

President Michel and Speaker Herminie held talks with the Speaker of the parliament of Sri Lanka during the Commonwealth parliamentary conference.

During the study visit, the delegation also had the chance to meet the presiding officers and secretary-general where discussions centred on the ways in which the parliament of Sri Lanka can help the National Assembly secretariat in further developing capacity building of its staff, especially in the field of committee work.

The delegation also met the president of the Sri Lanka-Seychelles Friendship Association, the Honourable Neomal Perera who is also Sri Lanka’s deputy Minister for External Affairs.

During the meeting the possibility of an exchange visit by members of the association was discussed as well as ways in which the two parliaments can further strengthen relations.
