Lions give Christmas gift of vision to 70

The ophthalmologists after one of the Lion’s Club supported operation sessions yesterday

Dr Roland Barbe said the arrival of ophthalmologists Dr Caleb Momanyi and Dr Wambugu Mariangela from Kenya has helped speed up clearing of the backlog of patients earlier identified to need cataract operation.

Doing the work with them is Dr Chen Oianyin.
Dr Barbe said besides shortage of experts, the hospital is also in need of extra infrastructure to do such operations in, because to do the cataract treatment, a number of other kinds of operations have had to be rescheduled.

He said patients operated on earlier are happy with their treatment.

Dr Momanyi told Nation the treatment involves removing a lens that has become opaque and replacing it with a good artificial one “which should last the patients’ lifetime”.
