Local artists to be rewarded during Cable Tunes award ceremony |20 December 2012

The award ceremony will be held on December 30 at the Tequila Boom nightclub and will be broadcast live on Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) television as from 9pm.

There are eight categories for the award and members of the public can now vote for their favourite artists in each class.

Terry Servina, the public relations manager at Cable & Wireless, said the nominations are based on the sales of cable tunes.

Fans and members of the public can text their nominations to a short code 9688. In each category, the nominees have a number and those who wish to take part in the SMS voting can simply send the number next to their nomination to 9688.

Those who wish to vote for their favourite artists have until 8.30pm on December 30 to send their texts.

The categories are best male artist, best female artist, best new artist, best group, SBC best video, best single, best collaboration and best selling artist.
For the best video clip, members of the public can text the name of their favourite video clip to the code 9688.

As prizes each category winner will win a sponsorship from Cable & Wireless to record their songs in a studio. There will also be other prizes given by other sponsors of the event.

The award will be eligible for work released during this year, meaning from January 1, 2012 to December 30, the day of the event.

Mr Servina said the company is satisfied with how the initiative has developed, adding that the reward is a way to encourage the artists to stay in the music industry.

Although it has a commercial aspect, the company is focusing on giving support to local artists and helping them develop their potential.

Cable & Wireless is calling on all fans and members of the public in general to take part in the voting and to keep supporting local artists.
