Badminton: junior knock-out competition-Cadeau, Toussaint singles winners

Ladies’ singles winner Cadeau                 TOUSSAINT … boys’ singles champion

Like Cadeau, Christian Toussaint collected two wins in the boys’ singles and boys’ doubles of the competition organised by the Seychelles Badminton Association.

The finals were played last Saturday at the La Promenade Gymnasium.

In the ladies’ singles final, Cadeau, who won the league earlier this year, beat Stephanie Henriette 2-0 (21-16, 21-11). Sheryl Lucas, who lost to eventual winner Cadeau in the semifinal, finished third with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-17) win against Dianne Paulin.

Ten players took part in the ladies’ singles competition.
Cadeau and Henriette joined forces with Stephanie Henriette in the ladies’ doubles to win all their three matches against Dianne Paulin/Hemma Saffrance 2-0 (21-8, 21-5), Sheryl Lucas/Angy Constance 2-0 (21-18, 22-20), and Stephanie Nicette/Shireen Orphée 2-0 (21-8, 21-5).

With two wins and a loss, Sheryl Lucas and Angy Constance finished second, while the pair of Dianne Paulin/Hemma Saffrance took third place and the duo of Stephanie Nicette/Shireen Orphée was ranked fourth.

Christian Toussaint needed three sets and had to come from a set down to edge Fabien Jerry 2-1 (16-21, 21-19, 21-16) in the final of the boys’ singles contested by seven players.

Loser to Jerry in the semifinal, league champion Javis Renaud had to accept finishing third this time with a 2-1 (21-12, 20-22, 21-19) win against Aaron Vidot in the third place playoff encounter.

Toussaint then teamed up with Vidot to win the boys’ doubles title with maximum nine points after collecting three wins in as many matches.

They garnered straight set wins against the duos of Hari Haransiva/Demis Payet 2-0 (21-7, 21-12) and Jahkim Renaud/Luo Jie 2-0 (21-6, 21-3). Their toughest encounter was against the pair of Javis Renaud/Fabien Jerry whom they edged 2-1 (16-21, 21-19, 21-16).
