Jean Tigana is 2012 best footballer

Tigana, season’s top footballerLeading Praslin-based Côte d’Or to winning their first major trophy – the Airtel Cup – a third place finish in the Barclays league division one standings and to the final of the Land Marine Cup, the skillful Tigana has been the centre of attraction for most football fans during the season.

League champions St Michel’s Gervais Waye-Hive has been selected as runner-up, while Randolph Lablache of Barclays league division two champions The Lions has been voted the year’s third best player.

Young Laurent Vel is the season’s best youth footballer.

Other awards based on individual achievements during the season have also been given out and they include best scorers in the three Barclays-sponsored leagues, best goalkeeper, best coach, best official and best young official.

With 14 goals, St Michel’s Leroy Corallie tops the division one league, while Foresters’ Francis Nourrice is the league division two top scorer with 17 goals.

Mont Buxton’s Jude Estico dominated league division three with 10 goals, while Lordy Sinon of St John Bosco led the youth (U20) league with 10 goals.

Côte d’Or custodian Kitson Cecile has been voted this year’s best goalkeeper, while his coach, Malagasy Ahmed Abdou is the best among the trainers.

Referee Bernard Camille is the season’s best official, inspiring Kieren Yocette who has been voted as the best young match official. The most improved official award went to Emile Fred, while Roddy Victor is the best youth coach.

Cascade-based The Lions have been promoted to the top league, while Mont Buxton will replace them in the second division after winning promotion. Praslin-based Revengers will also play in the second-tier league next season.
