In the article, ITTF expert Mohammad Atoom tells the story of the course organised under the direction of the ITTF development programme in conjunction with Olympic Solidarity.

There was also a training camp and a youth tournament comprising a team event – two singles and one double – and the doubles and singles events.

Mr Atoom described the course as very interesting. “We started our training camp with a positive meeting during which we explained to the coaches how we will organise the training camp.

The coaches really worked hard. I saw the efforts and fatigue on their faces, but they were motivated and eager for more knowledge in order to raise the standard of their players,” said Mr Atoom.

Ten coaches, including four female, from Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar and Djibouti took part in the training.

Seychelles team coach, Hungarian Istvan Chikan, also followed the course and really appreciated Mr Atoom’s efforts, according to the article published on the website.

Mr Atoom added that the tournament and the course staged in excellent facilities and in very good condition were successful.

“The course was very good. I think all of the participants learned new techniques that will be very useful for our players”, said Seychellois coach Jimmy Vel.

“I hope Mohammad will return to Seychelles to evaluate the work of all the coaches who participated in the course.”

A delighted Seychelles Table Tennis Association chairman Francis Remie thanked Mr Atoom for running the course.

“On behalf of the STTA I would like to thank the course conductor for a well-organised course and the ITTF for their support,” he said.

“Also, I want to thank the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association for its support and we look forward to staging another course in the near future.”

Mr Atoom concluded that “it was a great course …. I’m sure we will meet again to work together to develop table tennis in Indian Ocean.”
