Praslinois Dugasse and Rose voted year’s best judokas |28 December 2012

The first Seychellois athlete to qualify for the London Olympics held in London in August, Dominic Dugasse has retained the male judoka of the year title won last year.

Among his international outings in 2012, Dugasse competed at the Tournoi international de La Réunion (Tirun) where he won a gold medal, the World Cup in Lisbon, Portugal where he was ranked seventh out of 12, African Championship in Morocco where he finished seventh out of 26 in the -100kg class, the Olympic Games in London where he was ranked 139th worldwide and the Seychelles International Judo Tournament where he won the gold medal.

As for female judoka of the Year Brigitte Rose, her achievements for 2012 include winning a gold medal in the Baie Ste Anne Praslin open, claiming a gold medal in the Seychelles International Judo Tournament, finishing third to win a bronze medal in the Abu-Dhabi Grand Prix, and taking part in the World Cup in Bucharest, Romania.

Naddy Jeanne has been selected as the second best in the male senior category, while Amanda Payet is the women’s runner-up.

Young Neddy Philoé is the year’s best male young judoka, ahead of second-placed Nanteniana Finesse. They both took part in the Lamitye tournament organised by the Port Glaud judo club, the Baie Ste Anne Praslin open tournament, Seychelles International Judo Tournament, and the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l'Océan Indien (CJSOI) competition in Mauritius.

With same experiences as her boys’ counterparts, Caroline Philoé has won the best young female judoka title ahead of Jessy Malbrook who has been ranked second overall.

Like her male counterparts, Caroline Philoé fought in the Lamitye tournament organised by the Port Glaud judo club, the Baie Ste Anne Praslin open tournament, Seychelles International Judo Tournament, and the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l'Océan Indien (CJSOI) competition in Mauritius.

Thanks to his outstanding performance in 2012, Calix Cesar has been voted the year’s best coach, while Jenna Finesse’s devotion and commitment to the sport have earned her the best official award.
