Revised postage rates effective January 1, 2013 |29 December 2012

A communiqué from the SPS writes that the SPS will raise postage rates for local letters by 50 cents for both first and second class mail and by R1 for all international mails as a means to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations and reduce its cost.

New postage rates leaflets are available at the Central Post Office and all sub-post offices.
Meanwhile, the cost for renting a post office private letter box will remain unchanged.

The communiqué adds that the local postal company is committed to the provision of the universal service obligation, and providing full coverage of postal services within Seychelles.

The proposed tariff is considered to be justified as the costs of collecting, processing, delivering and dispatching mails have increased significantly since the last review in 2009, notes the SPS.

The current trends in connection with airmail conveyance costs, the economic situation influenced by both internal and external factors are likely to result in further increases in the cost of postal operations in Seychelles, adds the SPS.

The management and staff of SPS would like to thank all their esteemed customers and wish them a prosperous New Year 2013.
