Indonesian artistes to entertain at upcoming carnival

Jessica Hudson (top) and the Sekar Jepun dancers are expected to thrill audiences at this year’s Carnaval International de Victoria

Dancers from Badung Regent, Bali and Jessica Hudson, Asean award singer, will perform at the opening of the 2013 carnival on February 8 in the heart of Victoria.

Seychelles consul general in Indonesia, Nico Barito, has promised that the Indonesian and Asean international performers will put on “a scintillating performance that will captivate all audiences”.

“We thank the Bupati of Badung Regent in Bali who has agreed to take part in the 2013 edition of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands Carnival in Seychelles, especially as Bali will bring the signature dancer group Sekar Jepun,” said Mr Barito.

The group has performed internationally and Sekar Jepun dance has been staged during the official opening of major international events and world class conferences in Bali. The performance has been admired by many heads of state and dignitaries from around the world.

Sekar Jepun dance remains an icon of Bali, featuring Sekar Jepun, a flower that has many kinds of colours and shapes, which illustrate the people’s charm in welcoming guests from various countries. The sound of nature, gamelan music by Balinese composer will top up the mellowness of the dance.  The Sekar Jepun flower, well known as frangipani, exists in many paradisiac islands including Seychelles.

The highlight of the traditional heritage culture dance from the Island of The Gods ‘Bali’ will be the presence of Jessica Hudson, an Indonesian Asean top award youth singer featuring a colourful icon of two faces to complement the spirit and creative of youth.  This represents the symbol of togetherness of cultures between island nations within the Indian Ocean and in the Asean.

The Seychelles minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, Alain St Ange, has welcomed the participation of the Indonesian delegation in the 2013 Indian Ocean Vanilla Island's Carnival.

“Victoria, the Capital of the Creole World, is set to again play host to a carnival staged under the banner of the melting pot of cultures and we all remain eager to showcase togetherness with all those showcasing their own culture and people through this mid-ocean equatorial carnival of carnivals,” Minister St Ange said.
