Cape Town minstrels here for carnival |06 February 2013

Headed by Kader Miller, they form part of the second delegation to arrive in the country.

South Africa has been taking part in the carnival since it was first launched in 2011, and this year it is ready to enhance its involvement with six of South Africa’s best Midea Minstrel performers from Cape Town.

The minstrel performers form part of a seven-member delegation who will be taking part in this year’s carnaval.

“There’s only one word to describe how we feel to attend the carnival again this year…excited!  And I can assure all our Seychellois families that we will be able to give them some of the best performances ever. This will be our third year at the carnival and we now know what is expected of us to entertain the crowds,” said Mr Miller.

“We are not the only group representing South Africa this year, but we have the best minstrel performers and we are going to win the heart of every Seychellois. Our delegation is made up of professional minstrels and they are here to win for South Africa,” added Mr Miller.

He expressed the happiness of the South African performers for this great opportunity of a lifetime and also his gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture as well as to the Seychelles Tourism Board for organising this unique carnival.

“For all of the performers this will be the first time they will be performing internationally and the first time they get the opportunity to board an airplane.  They come from very poor communities and thanks to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the Seychelles Tourism Board for staging such a great event right here in Africa makes it possible for us to make this a dream come true for our group,” said Mr Miller.

“I want them to experience the good heart of the Seychellois people. We love the spirit of the Seychellois because these islands are the ‘melting pot’ and we are the ‘rainbow people’. We are coming to the carnival with the best performers, colourful painted faces and colourful costumes,” added Mr Miller.

A second South African group from Natal is expected to arrive in Seychelles later this week for the carnival starting Friday February 8.
