Seychelles extends condolences to Cambodia |07 February 2013

Apart from the diplomatic corps, many guests, including French Premier Jean-Marc Ayrault, Jia Qinglin, chairman of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and Japanese Prince Akishino attended the ceremony that took place on February 4 at the end of a four-day special public holiday.

King father Norodom Sihanouk – as he was called – died daged 89 of heart failure on October 15 in Beijing, China. He was cremated in a gold casket by the Royal Palace.

Seychelles and Cambodia enjoy excellent diplomatic relations since their establishment in 1980. In 2010, the two countries signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement and in 2012, the year during which Cambodia was the chair of ASEAN, a visa waiver allowing all Seychellois passport holders to enter the country for stays shorter or equivalent to two weeks.

As a testimony of these good relations, the Cambodian National Election committee has recently invited the government of the Republic of Seychelles to send a delegation to observe Cambodia’s National Assembly Election on July 23 this year.
