New computer lab to boost learning at Anse Royale secondary

Mr Palmyre amd Ms Fanny cut the ribbon to officially open the new computer lab

The computer lab was officially opened yesterday by the school’s head teacher Fabian Palmyre and a parent, Patsy Fanny, in the presence of sponsors, teachers, parents, members of the Parents Teachers Association and school council’s members.

Renovation work on the lab, wiring and tables have been sponsored by Vijay Construction company, 15 computers which are already in place have been given by Rila Group and the air conditioning has been done by the Seychelles Trading Company.

Another 15 computers will be given by local businessman Muditha Gunatilake.
After cutting the ribbon, the ceremony was held inside and those present had the chance to see how the renovated lab looks.

Member of the National Assembly for Anse Royale Dereck Samson and chairperson of the school’s council Barry Faure were among those present.

Sponsors were given a token of appreciation for helping to boost teaching and learning at the school.

In her short address, ICT teacher Marie-France Barra said the setting up of the computer lab is proof that the school community realises that ICT is a forever growing need in our daily life.

It has an important role to play in the education of the young children, she added.

Miss Barra said through the use of computers, the teaching and learning of abstract concepts will be made easier.

“This investment serves as a true demonstration of community spirit, corporate responsibility, and interest in the well-being of our school,” she said.

“We invite the community to take part in the maintenance and security of this investment in our children’s education and future.”

Mr Palmyre said the project started last February and the computer lab will be used as a tool in the teaching of other subjects.

The school has now three computer labs, two which were set up by the Ministry of Education and are being used for the teaching of ICT as a subject.

Heads of Rila Group Georgina Dhillon and of Vijay Construction company Vijay Patel have both affirmed their commitment and support towards education.
