Swimming-Busy schedule ahead for local swimmers

Local swimmers will be in action on February 22 in the long distance competition

The international outings for 2013 will begin with the South African Level 2 regional age group championships from March 22-25 in Sasolburg, Kimberley, Cape Town. It will be followed by the 5th Jeux de l’Espoir in Mauritius in April.

The 15th Fédération Internationale de Natation (Fina) long course world championships to be held from July 19 to August 4 in Barcelona, Spain will follow. The Junior African Swimming Championships in Cairo, Egypt in September will be the next international outing for our swimmers. They will conclude the 2013 international calendar with the Meeting International de La Réunion in December.

Locally, the new season will start with the long distance competition which will take place on Friday February 22 in the Roche Caïman Olympic-size pool. This will be followed by the middle distance competition in June.

In between, various SSA-sponsored series meets will take place to complement the other major championships which include the National Open championship from May 29-31, the Medley competition on June 6, the Sacos-sponsored inter-school heats and finals in September and October, as well as the Age Group Open competition in November.
In terms of training, two camps have been programmed, both locally and overseas. The first one will take place in April in Mauritius, while the second one will take place locally in August.
