Football: Caf Confederations Cup-Anse Reunion hold Gor Mahia to away 0-0 draw

Action from Anse Reunion/Gor Mahia match

Playing away on Saturday at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya, La Digue-based Anse Reunion held 10-man Gor Mahia, winners of the now disbanded Africa Cup Winners' Cup in 1987, to a goalless draw – a much better result compared to St Michel’s 4-1 thrashing by Tusker FC in the Caf Champions League.

Gor Mahia's Teddy Akumu was sent off by Ethiopian referee Haileyesus Bazezew for a professional foul in the 68th minute, but according to reports from Kenya in the Kenya media, the midfielder received a hero’s send-off to the dressing room as he had saved his team from conceding a goal.

The same source added that Gor Mahia must work harder to win the return match early next month.
Anse Reunion must win the return leg match to go through. Any draw with goals scored will see them take the exit as Gor Mahia would progress on the away goals rule.

In the event of the return match ending on a goalless draw again, the winners will be decided in a penalty shoot-out.
