School of Music gets laptops from Midgårsskolan of Umeå

Minister Alain St Ange accepting the teaching materials from Mr From in the presence of culture principal secretary Benjamine Rose and National Conservatoire of Performing Arts director Pierre Joseph

The head master of the Sweden Upper Middle School Midgårdsskolan, Håkan From handed over the batch of laptops and teaching materials to Tourism and Culture Minister Alain St Ange recently in the presence of  culture principal secretary Benjamine Rose and the director of the National Conservatoire of Performing Arts Pierre Joseph.

M. Joseph said the donation will help bring a more conducive learning environment for the students as the School of Music was short of equipment.

He explained that the transfer of the laptops was discussed and agreed upon in April 2012 when the head master of Midgårdsskolan met the management team of the School of Music.

“The School of Music will use the donation in its programme. At this point in time, the school was trying to introduce a Diploma course in music and there was a group of students particularly interested in using computers for research and documentation,” said Mr Joseph.

The first batch of laptops arrived in Seychelles after a group of teachers and students from Seychelles visited the Swedish town of Umeå as part of an exchange programme in September 2012.

This was then followed by the second offer of laptops after the visit of two teachers and two students from Sweden in November last year.

“It is our hope that students see this gesture as a continuous support to ease their work and that they make good use of the equipment to enhance learning as well as to enjoy the multi-media applications now easily available online,” added Mr Joseph.
