Rotary club donates gas cookers to Red Cross

The hand-over of the donation

Rotary Club of Victoria president Roland Rassool presented the gas cookers Red Cross Society of Seychelles president Barbara Carolus-André in a short ceremony at the society’s headquarters at Providence.

According to the Red Cross Society of Seychelles, the gas cookers will be given to people who lost theirs in the recent heavy downpours which lashed the eastern region of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue in late January.

Tropical depression Felleng brought torrential downpours which drenched all of Mahé, but the districts of Cascade, Pointe Larue, Anse Aux Pins and Au Cap on the east coast of the island were the most hit.

Hillsides eroded causing mudslide that pushed houses off their foundations, filled houses or even destroyed some completely.
Heavy rainfall and runoffs even caused small streams and big rivers to overflow, resulting in flooding of low lying areas and roads.
