Cricket-Paul re-elected SCA chairman |14 March 2013

Paul was re-elected into office unopposed for another two-year term during the sport’s annual general meeting held on Saturday at the Maison Football. This is his third two-year mandate.

Ramesh Venkateswaralu has been elected secretary of the association and he replaces Ayub Suleman.
Arup Das has been given another two-year mandate as treasurer.

The six ordinary members are Aruna, Kaushal, Hari Krishnan, Patrick Thomas, Ayub Suleman and Murray Clark.

In his report, chairman Paul said he is happy with the ongoing youth development programme in schools with the help of South African level three coach Robbie Coutts.

La Digue school was the first to benefit from the programme in March last year, and in June children from Bel Eau primary, Independent School, Plaisance primary, Mont Fleuri secondary and Anse Etoile primary got to learn the basics of cricket.

Altogether, 457 children were exposed to the game of cricket – a first initiative of its kind ever in the history of Seychelles cricket.
Coached by Nathalie Didon, the Plaisance primary team won the under-14 tournament.

Mr Paul also talked about the successful three-day course attended by physical education instructors and run by Kenya cricket development officer David Odhiambo.

Aruna Pradeep is Seychelles’ most qualified cricket umpire after attending an International Cricket Council (ICC) umpiring seminar in South Africa.

He also thanked sponsors Eden Island, Vijay Construction, Pillay R Group, Ardagh Metal, Sahajanand Builders, Nouvobanq, Hari Builders, Swan Impex, Amusement Centre, CCCL and the National Sports Council for their generous contributions.

The SCA staged two local tournaments last year and took part in two international competitions.

Meanwhile, Sharo Valentin has stayed on as Seychelles Hockey Federation chairman after members gave him another vote of confidence in the AGM held recently.

Jean Barra is the vice-chairman, Jeffrey Lagrenade the secretary and Alain Alcindor the treasurer.

The ordinary members are Georges Sicobo, Ervell Barra and Alex Souffe.
