Le Méridien Barbarons golf tournament-Pragassen beats the field, wins by three shots |28 March 2013

The tournament was held at the Seychelles Golf Club and some 36 golfers vied to take the attractive first prize that the hotel put on offer, a weekend-for-two stay on half board at the prestigious hotel plus a well-crafted trophy!

Played under a stroke play format, the players had to deal with hot and humid conditions, tough pin positions and fierce competition that saw many golfers falter on their way to heavy front nine scores. However, a group of players including Erwin Pragassen, Joe Elisa, Patrick Asba, Hevens Andrade and Charlie Morin set a solid pace on the front nine, posting very good scores. Erwin Pragassen in particular proved the man to catch hitting a sub 40 gross score at the halfway mark.

The back nine was all about the players in contention trying to catch Erwin and Erwin trying to maintain his lead. At the end of the day, with another sub-40 gross score on the back nine, Erwin, who plays off a handicap of 13, returned a brilliant four under par net score of 64, winning by an impressive three-stroke margin!

Patrick Asba was second with a net score of 67, Joe Elisa third with 68 net and Charlie Morin fourth with 69 net. Patrick and Joe both took home trophies with Patrick also earning a dinner for two at the hotel’s Le Mangrovia restaurant and Joe a one-hour massage for two at the Barbarons Spa.

Subsidiary prizes were won by Hevens Andrade (best front nine score), young A. Michel (best back nine score), Catney Laporte (nearest to the pin) and Patrick Asba (longest drive).

Richard Moeri, the assistant general manager of Le Méridien Barbarons hotel, was on hand with his well-organised team to present the winners with their prizes.

Mr Moeri was delighted with the tournament and thanked all golfers for their involvement and efforts before going on to state that the hotel would continue to support golf in Seychelles.
