Temperature soars as heat builds up |02 April 2013

The director of meteorological services Vincent Amelie has said that after the rain left Seychelles, the temperature twice soared to 33.7 degrees Celsius last week – March 29 and 30.

This is the third highest temperature ever recorded in Seychelles since the Seychelles Meteorological Services started keeping records of daily temperatures.

The hottest day ever recorded was on November 14, 1974 when the temperature soared to 34.4 degrees Celsius, while the second hottest day – 33.8 degrees Celsius – was registered on April 10, 1998.

Mr Amelie said this is “extreme condition as it is the first time the heat has started building up so early in the year with the temperature climbing this high in March”.

“Normally, April is our hottest month and we expect the weather to get hotter,” he added.
