Seychelles mourns passing of Baroness Thatcher

The late Baroness Thatcher

In a letter sent to Prime Minister David Cameron, President Michel spoke of the Baroness’ exceptional leadership qualities:

“The ‘Iron Lady’ was a remarkable leader whose indomitable will, strength of character and clarity of vision epitomised the qualities of the country and nation that she so resolutely led for more than a decade. Baroness Thatcher was a central figure of the world international stage of the 20th century. She left an indelible mark on international politics and helped re-define international relations. Baroness Thatcher will also be remembered for her role in transforming the British society and the economy.”

On behalf of the people and government of Seychelles, President Michel reiterated his deepest sorrow for the loss of Baroness Thatcher and spoke of her lasting legacy as an inspiration for generations to come.

The first woman ever to serve as prime minister of Great Britain and the longest-serving British prime minister of the 20th century, Margaret died yesterday at age 87.
She died peacefully following a stroke.

Known as the Iron Lady, Baroness Thatcher led Great Britain as Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990, and was a champion of free-market policies and adversary of the Soviet Union.
She was the political soul mate of former United States of America president Ronald Reagan.
