International athletics competition- Airtel committed to helping sports development here

Messrs Volcère and Sinha at yesterday’s press conference

Mr Volcère was speaking during a press conference yesterday afternoon at the NSC conference room at Stade Linite, Roche Caïman.

Airtel managing director Vikram Sinha said the telecommunications company plans to continuously support Seychelles’ sports development programmes and that the company remains committed and focused on this goal on a long-term basis.

The press conference was held in view of this coming Friday’s international athletics competition where athletes from selected secondary schools from Seychelles will compete alongside a group of athletes from the International School of Kenya.

The NSC is organising the competition in partnership with Airtel and the Seychelles Athletics Federation. The event was held for the first time last year and following its success, the NSC has decided to host the event a second time.

According to Mr Volcère, the NSC is planning to make the competition an annual event and hopes to invite other schools from the region in the future to make it more competitive.

Mr Volcère added that the seven local secondary schools chosen to take part in this years’ competition have been picked based on their performances during last year’s Inter-School Athletics Championships. The schools who will be competing alongside the Kenya International School are Plaisance, English River, Anse Boileau, Pointe Larue, Anse Royale, Praslin and La Digue.
