Au Cap fire robs six of their house

Ms Pierre surveying the damage in the company of firemen and police officers

None of them was at home when the fire started and nobody was injured but she told Nation everything in the house was destroyed by the blaze which fire fighters said was already dying naturally when they arrived with two fire engines.

The house was made of timber, iron sheets and blocks and firemen said its roof had already caved in when they got there.

Among the first on site were the district’s member of the National Assembly Murielle Marie and administrator Neville Sinon, both of whom said the family would spend yesterday night with relatives “but we have contacted all agencies necessary to help re-house the family”.

Ms Pierre’s youngest child is in Creche while the oldest – who is 17 years old – in secondary school.

Police and fire fighters said it was too early to tell the cause of the fire but investigations are ongoing.
