Seychelles gears up for FetAfrik 2013

South African Chef Kalebo Segone (left) & South African designer Mishah are special invitees for this year’s FetAFrik

Demystifying the myths and stereotyping of Africa, this year’s FetAfrik is opening up the plurality of Africa’s rich culture.

The Seychelles Ministry of Tourism and Culture is coming out in full force to show through a three-day programme the wealth of the different cultures present in Africa.
The spotlight will be on one of South Africa’s top designers Misha Effendi from Cape Town and Johannesburg’s most prominent chef and lecturer Kabelo Segone.

Combining South Africa’s traditional five-star cuisine with a wide array of bright colours and fabric from this region of the African continent is just a fragment of the 2013 African Night.

The 2013 African Night will offer a truly sensational experience - a delight for all the senses, an enchanting Gala Dinner accentuated by a lively fashion show and sounds of local and international performances.

Every detail of the African Night, to be held at the Le Meridien Barbarons Hotel, is being carefully planned to create an authentic African ambiance inspired by Africa’s pattern and striking colours imbued with vibrancy and extraordinary texture.

FetAfrik 2013 in fact coincides with the Golden Jubilee of the OAU (Organisation of African Unity), which is nowadays known as the African Union (AU).
The event this year promises to take the Seychellois public and its African communities to the African cradle of rhythm and music.

The official opening of FetAfrik at the National Cultural Centre on May 23 will showcase Mauritius and Seychelles African Diasporas through an exhibition of African ancestries from the Nelson Mandela Centre in Mauritius.  Seychelles focus of the African festival will also be an African Bazaar showcasing the sound and colours of Africa.

On May 25, for Africa Day itself, FetAfrik closes with an exhibition on the history of OAU-AU.
Seychelles FetAfrik 2013 promises to leave a lasting impression.
