Played last Saturday at the Seychelles golf club, the competition proved to be a highly competitive and an enjoyable day for some 36 golfers.

Played under the medal stroke-play format, several players were in the hunt at the half-way mark, including the likes of Dominic Morin and Pascal Esparon who both came in with superb front nine scores to set the pace.

However, any golfer will tell you that you can’t win a tournament on the front nine, but you can lose it on the back and unfortunately Esparon and Morin faltered to heavy scores on their way in to shoot themselves out of contention.

After 18 holes of play, four players stood head and shoulders above the rest. Jerry Jean-Baptiste, Edwin Palmer, Peter Moncherry and club captain David Deltel had outstanding back nine scores to all card equal net scores of 66 (2 under the course par).

It was left to the scoring committee to decide who had the most consistent round by analysing the scores hole by hole. At the end of the day, veteran Palmer edged out Moncherry and Deltel for the title.

Robert Gaines-Cooper (group chairman), Alex Ellenberger (managing director) and Bernard Petit (director) of the Royal Palm group were on hand to give out the attractive prizes to the winners, which included overnight stays at the Indian Ocean Lodge on Praslin including air tickets plus free rounds of golf at the Lemuria golf course.

Subsidiary prizes were won by Morin (best front nine), Sunil Shah (best back nine), Erwin Pragassen (nearest to the pin) and Louis Vandagne (nearest to the pin in two shots).

As the players sat down to enjoy a scrumptious dinner provided by the well-organised sponsor, yet another successful tournament had played out in great weather conditions among friends and family of the Seychelles golf club.

The Royal Palm group is a property development company undertaking some major investment projects in Seychelles in the construction field.
