Seychelles Breweries classic golf tournament-Jerry Jean-Baptiste shows his class |26 April 2013

An eye-catching number of golfers (42 in total) teed up at the Seychelles golf club on Saturday afternoon under an individual stroke play format with the aim of taking home the trophy and title of champion.

Played under the blistering April sun, the players were keen to record good first day scores to carry over into Sunday’s round. The likes of Catney Laporte, Jerry Jean-Baptiste, Jemmy Esther and a few others set the early pace, all signing their Saturday cards for sub 70 net scores.

Sunday’s tee times started around 7.30am with the leaders teeing off at around 9am.

A two-day golf tournament such as the Seychelles Breweries classic gives golfers a chance to fight themselves into contention during round two and that’s exactly what a number of players did, trying their best to put pressure on the leaders.

The likes of Daryl Anthony and Patrick Asba played good, solid golf but it wasn’t enough to catch 2012 golfer of the year Jean-Baptiste who came in with an outstanding 3 under par two-day score of 133.

Apart from trophies, Seychelles Breweries also put up full golf sets, golf bags and other goodies for the winners as well as caps and shirts for all golfers.

The runner-up prize went to Esther for his 135 net score and second runner-up to Daryl Anthony, also scoring 135 but losing to Jemmy on the count back.

Subsidiary prizes went to Catney Laporte (best Saturday), Patrick Asba (best Sunday), Louis Vandagne (nearest to the pin) and Erwin Pragassen (longest drive). Françoise Jouvet, best female golfer for 2012, won the best lady title.

Patrick Hoareau and Ramona Porice of Seychelles Breweries gave out the prizes to all the winners helped by club captain David Deltel and in the presence of members and guests.

A special mention goes to club professional William Weidner who shot a magnificent 7 under gross score of 129 over the two days.

Unable to take prizes due to his pro status, William’s score is nevertheless the best gross score recorded at the SGC this year.
