Volleyball: National League-Neo Boyz lose out, La Digue gain first win |30 April 2013

The game ended 3-1 in favour of the northern Mahé side who were rampant in the first two sets, winning 25-15 and 25-16 before Neo Boyz attempted to fight back by taking the third set 25-19. However, Beau Vallon regained their composure and won the fourth set 25-15 to win the contest after 96 minutes.

The other games pitted Premium Spikers against Arsu Boyz and the former won it on a 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 25-15) score. The match ended after 107 minutes.

After this weekend’s matches, Neo Boyz, who have played three games, winning two and losing one, maintain first place on seven points followed by Beau Vallon and Premium Spikers with six points apiece for two wins each.

Arsu Boyz and Racing Club sit in fourth and fifth places in the five-team standings with three and two points respectively.

In the women’s league, La Digue picked up their first win in two games by beating Santa West in 65 minutes. The final score was 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-18) which showed La Digue’s superiority in the game. In the other match, Rainbow came from a set down to win 3-1 against Praslin Volleyball Club. Rainbow lost the first set 22-25 before raising their game to win the next three sets 25-18, 25-15, 25-21.

La Digue lead the standings on four points followed by Arsu, Friends, Cascade and Rainbow all on three points. PVC and Santa West are bottom and locked on two points apiece.
In the Kokonet women’s division two, Mont Fleuri maintained their excellent start to the campaign by winning 3-0 (25-12, 26-24, 26-24) against St Louis Bombers to move to 12 points and first place on the table.

Ephelia Resort recorded their first win in four games by defeating Cadettes in five sets.  The teams exchanged sets in a hard-fought game were Ephelia lost the first set 22-25 before winning the second 25-12. Cadettes regained their lead by winning the third set 25-19, but Ephelia won the last two sets 25-14 and 15-10 to win the game in 96 minutes.

La Digue Warriors played their first games of the seasons, winning both of them on identical 3-1 scores. Their first game was against Port Glaud and the set score was 25-23, 25-14, 17-25, 28-26 in 118 minutes, and the other was against Bel Ombre with the set score being 28-26, 21-25, 25-14, 25-17.

The two Kokonet men’s second division matches involved Grand Anse Praslin Boyz. They easily defeated outsiders 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-16) in 54 minutes and managed to win a tough match against Air Waves 3-2.  Gap Boyz won the first set 25-22 before losing the second 20-25. They restored their advantage with a 25-18 third-set score and again Air Waves fought back to make it 2-2 (24-26). In the final set, Gap Boyz finally wrapped up victory with a 15-12 scores in a match played over 107 minutes.
The result leaves Gap Boyz level on points with La Digue, both without defeat early in the season.
