Swedish envoy to tell compatriots of Seychelles experience

Mr Borgstam presenting his credentials to President Michel

He was speaking at State House after presenting his credentials to President James Michel, becoming his country’s new ambassador.

He said his talks with Mr Michel focused on the good cooperation between Sweden and Seychelles as well as anti-piracy efforts for which he said there is a team leader from his country among the multi-national forces fighting the scourge in the Indian Ocean.

The country’s forces have been involved in exercises with our coastguards in a capacity building effort, he said.

Mr Borgstam said his talks with Mr Michel also touched on renewable energy which he said he knows is a dear topic to Seychelles as well as regional issues of common interest.

His country is already very active in organisations like the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association, one of the bodies through which 15 Seychellois have been trained.

Sweden gives 4% of its budget – about 4 billion euros – as development aid through bodies like the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime as well as the World Bank, from which we benefit.
Mr Borgstam also called on the speaker of the National Assembly Dr Patrick Herminie.
