Job-seekers on inner islands apprised of vacancies on offer

Held at the Pension’s Fund complex at Grand Anse, the fair formed part of activities organised by the Ministry of Labour and Human Resource Development to mark labour day 2013.

It also enabled members of the public to learn more about the services being offered by the outstation offices on Praslin and La Digue, which have recently been re-organised under the directive of Cecile Pickering.

In all, 20 organisations from both the private and public sectors took part in the activity.
According to a communiqué received from the Ministry of Labour and Human Resource Development, there was a steady flow of people coming to the job fair to either fill in application forms or query about the different posts on offer.

As per the ministry’s statistics up to March 2013, there are 85 people seeking employment on Praslin and La Digue and 150 available posts have been registered.

Labour and Human Resource Development Minister Idith Alexander, who was on Praslin for the job fair, took the opportunity to visit all the stalls and speak to those present as well as those seeking employment.

She advised them to “take the chance being offered seriously and learn as much as you can about the job vacancies on the labour market”.
The Ministry of Labour and Human Resource Development will continue to conduct such activities as long as it is serving its purpose and benefiting job seekers.
