Holiday learn to swim programme-Children encouraged to develop their swimming skills

This is why the National Sports Council (NSC) regularly organises the holiday learn to swim programme.

The last sessions were held from April 22 to May 3, during which time primary and secondary students of public schools were on holiday.

Eighty-two children took part in the sessions that lasted two weeks, where instructors Randy Landry, Shane Mangroo, Teddy Alphonse and Robert Suzette took the time to teach them the skills needed to be able to swim.

After the two weeks, they were rewarded with certificates based on their respective levels.

Among the 82, nine received water confidence level one certificate and three water confidence level two.

Twenty-one were awarded one-star certificates, 12 got two-star certificates, 10 received three-star certificates with one swimmer being awarded the four-star certificate.

These children must have certainly gone home with a sense of accomplishment after these sessions which should serve as encouragement to others to equip themselves with an essential skill.

The next session will be held from May 13 to June 20 and the NSC is encouraging all parents to use these opportunities to get their children to learn swimming at a fee of just R200.

Adults are also encouraged to come forward and they have to pay R300. The deadline for registration and payment is May 10 (this coming Friday).
