Table Tennis World Championships-Seychelles team leave for worlds |10 May 2013

They will be taking part in individual events – men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles and mixed doubles – alongside competitors from 128 other nations.

Those making the trip are Bryon Mousbé, Mike Créa, Dario Laurence, Nicholas Esther, Christy Bristol and Laura Sinon. They will be accompanied by coach Peter Youpa and Seychelles Table Tennis Association chairman Francis Remie, who will also be attending a series of international meetings while there.

The Championship will last for one week, from May 13-20, 2013. The World Table Tennis Championships first took place in 1926 in London, England. However, since 2000 it has been split into two separate competitions. Team events are now held in even numbered years, while individual events (singles and doubles) are held in odd numbered years.

So 2013 is the year for the individual events to be contested, and 10 years after last staging the event, France is once again the host country.

The last individual World Table Tennis Championships were held in Rotterdam, Netherlands in May 2011 and Chinese players made a clean sweep of all the titles – Zhang Jike (men's singles), Ding Ning (women's singles), Ma Long and Xu Xin (men's doubles), Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia (women's doubles), and Zhang Chao and Cao Zhen (mixed doubles).
