Employers and workers take ownership of policy

Employers and workers taking part in the validation process of the National Employment Policy

The Ministry of Labour and Human Resources Development (MLHRD) said this as the May 16-17 exercise ended on Friday, with the presentation of proposals from the working groups where the way forward was discussed by a tripartite panel made up of officials from the ministry, of employers and of workers’ organisations.

“The employers and workers’ representatives expressed their appreciation for having been consulted and involved in the technical review of the policy. This has in turn instilled in them a sense of ownership towards the policy,” said the ministry, which was advised that a consultant involved should meet members of the private sector at the next human resources forum, scheduled for the end of May, to seek their views before the policy is finalised.

They advised thus because “the private sector has an important role to play in implementing the policy”.
The ministry reiterated its commitment towards implementing the policy, promoting and disseminating its key principles and objectives to the population.
International Labour Organisation representatives said delegates at the workshop took active part, consulted and were “very positive”.

“All agreed the deliberations were very informative and relevant to the proposed strategies of the policy,” said the ministry, thanking the ILO for their technical expertise throughout the review process of the policy.

“The overall outcome of the validation workshop was successful and has contributed in moving closer towards the adoption of a new employment policy for Seychelles,” said the MLHRD.
