Agency marks edge of flood prone road

The intelligently placed cones will guide drivers away from the drain during flooding

Chief executive of the Seychelles Land Transport Agency Parinda Herath said this yesterday giving the cost of the project as R250,000.

Vehicles often land in the drain when flash floods cover both the road and the channels making it difficult for drivers to tell where the edge is.

But the intelligently placed metallic cones now stand high above where the water would reach, yet out of the way so vehicles would not hit them, and they are bolted to the side of the drain so they do not interfere with the storm water flow in the drain.

“We have put them on both sides of the road where the drains are open and avoided where there are access roads,” said Mr Herath, who also noted the markers have reflective covers so they can be seen even in bad weather or at night.
