Volleyball-La Digue grab wins, Santa West still winless |06 June 2013
The Space 95 women’s first division match between Rainbow and Santa West lasted one hour, with Santa West doing little to show an improvement in their current form, losing the first set 7-25.
Despite battling a little harder in the second and third sets which they lost 15-25 and 16-25, they ended the match on the losing end, once again on a 0-3 score.
Santa West remain bottom of the league and are the only side yet to win a set after four games. Rainbow’s victory moved them up to third place on 7 points behind La Digue (10 points from three wins and a loss) and Cascade (9 points from three wins in as many matches).
There were two Kokonet women’s division two matches on the programme last weekend and Bel Ombre and Port Glaud picked up victories.
Bel Ombre won for only the second time in six games when they beat Cadettes who are yet to win. The northern Mahe side easily won the first set 25-10, before losing the second 17-25. They did, however, manage to win the third and fourth sets 25-15 and 25-22 to win 3-1 in 1 hour and a half.
Port Glaud won against Island Girls on the same 3-1 score, but it was a much tougher game. Island Girls kept the score close throughout but had to settle for defeat as Port Glaud came out stronger. The set scores were 25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 25-23 in a game that lasted one hour 35 minutes.
In the Kokonet men’s division two league, La Digue played two games in as many days, but still managed to fight the fatigue and claim wins.
Against Airwaves, La Digue won 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-17) to hand them their fourth loss in five games after one hour 10 minutes of play.
Outsiders suffered their second defeat in three games at the hands of La Digue. It took the Diguois 1 hour 35 minutes to win 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 27-25) and move onto 14 points to lead that table after six games.
GAP Boyz maintained their unbeaten record at the expense of rivals Baie Ste Anne Spikers on a 3-0 (25-19, 30-28, 25-22) score after 1 hour 18 minutes of play.
