Pa Joe - a musical show worth seeing |13 June 2013

The musical was proposed by a member of the National Day Celebration Organising Committee, Jacqueline Moustache-Belle. With great support from the other members of the committee, the proposed idea was given the go ahead.

Garnering the support of great artists like David André, Joe Samy and Patrick Victor, the organising team burned the midnight oil to create the musical.

Pa Joe attempts to stage the episodes in our society from the 1930s to the modern day. Many of us today would not remember the days without television, much less, days without mobile phones and internet. Pa Joe deliberately focuses stronger on the period we were without television.

Besides promoting social and moral renaissance, the musical also entails awareness of climate change and the behaviour of the people towards our protected species whereby some people are still breaking the laws regulating our environment.

The musical show is also a tribute to our Seychellois artists who, through their songs, anecdotes, jokes and storytelling, have recorded our history and development in all spheres of life.

This human and historical journey is told through a selection of local and international musical compositions that have had a significant impact on our growth and development.

And to make it more interesting, for the first time a musical show will be accompanied by a live band.

Pa Joe offers you the liberty of laughing at a joke when you are the butt of the joke. It shows the level of maturity our nation has reached.

Members of the organising committee had the chance this week to watch a full dress rehearsal of the show at the International Conference Centre, the place where it will be premiered tomorrow night for invited guests only.

Members of the public will be able to see the musical on June 15, 16 and 17 at the same venue.
The show will start at 7.30pm on June 15 and 17, and at 3pm on Sunday June 16.

Tickets cost R100 apiece and are on sale at Tanmi’s office in the Pirates Arms building.
