Tourism board and partners review mid-year successes |20 June 2013
Held at the Le Méridien Barbarons hotel, the opening was attended by the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange, secretary of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Barry Faure who is also the chairperson of the STB, principal secretary for tourism Sherin Naiken, STB’s chief executive Elsia Grandcourt and key partners.
Addressing those present, Mr St Ange said marketing Seychelles as a destination is an important part which contributes to the success of the tourism industry, but is equally vital for the trade partners to see what role they can play to fill up their hotels.
Mr St Ange said there is a need to develop the human side of tourism, where our people are showcased.
He called on trade partners to keep sight of the marketing of our country and to work as a team to see how Seychelles can be marketed not only as a tourism destination but in other aspects such as an events destination.
Mrs Grandcourt said the meeting is important as it aims to review the progress and development of the STB and the tourism industry.
It also helps in seeing where the country is in regards to its tourism, evaluating and planning for the rest of the year and setting the way forward for 2014.
Presentations were given by directors of marketing for the various regions, with the first one being the summary of strategies adopted during the past six months to market Seychelles in South Africa.
The presentation was given by the STB director for Africa, the Americas and the Middle East David Germain.
Mr Germain’s first presentation gave an overview of the strategies adopted by his team to market Seychelles as a destination among the South Africans.
He spoke of the key performance indicators and how the strategies have brought about positive results.
Views and suggestions were shared after presentations were given.
