Yesterday marked the second annual UniSey Fest, an event designed to get secondary school pupils, employees and individuals thinking about what they might like to study and what courses, diplomas and degrees are available at the university.

This year, three new partners, namely the Seychelles International Business Authority (SIBA), Air Seychelles and the Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) have come on board and joined the growing number of exhibitors, government departments and agencies and corporate companies who were already on board.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Marina Confait, said the occasion was an important opportunity to strengthen partnerships, celebrate the university’s progress and promote its various programmes, facilities and services.

“This event provides an opportunity for parents, prospective students and lecturers, and the public in general, to discover UniSey’s learning environment,” Ms Confait said.

“It offers an avenue for interactions with its management, staff members and current students.”

Ms Confait also said that the theme of this year’s Fest, “innovation through learning”, was meant to highlight new developments at UniSey in implementing technology and other emerging trends in post-secondary education.

One of the attractions included a class demonstration between students and a lecturer in separate virtual classrooms, showing how information communication technology (ICT) can be used as a teaching method for innovative learning to overcome the logistical challenges that face many students.

“This year, I would like to take the opportunity to announce the offer of a new Master’s Degree, due to start in September 2013, that is, a Master’s in Public Administration” to be delivered jointly with the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (Esami),” said the Vice-Chancellor.

“We invite public sector administrators to seize the opportunity to acquire enhanced knowledge leading to higher qualifications.”

Ms Confait also announced that the university’s ICT centre, the India-Seychelles Centre of Excellence in Information and Communication Technology, at the Mont Fleuri campus was ready and equipped to offer customised IT courses in response to the specific needs of both individuals and organisations.
