National Assembly-Minister Meriton to answer questions on district projects |09 July 2013

The questions will address issues relating to development projects in the districts as well as other services provided to the communities such as sports facilities and day care centers.

The Minister for Finance, Trade and Investment, Pierre Laporte, will also be present to give answers to a Private Notice Question by the leader of opposition, David Pierre, on the recent increase in the prices of cooking gas.

Minister Laporte will then present, for the National Assembly’s approval, two Bills - the Insolvency Bill, 2013 and the Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2013.

First, the new Insolvency Bill, 2013, is being proposed to replace the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. While providing for a more modern framework for bankruptcy, the Bill also seeks to consolidate laws relating to bankruptcy of individuals and winding up of companies. 
Moreover, it provides for rescue mechanisms for companies.

The second Bill is proposing several amendments to the Companies Act with the aim of improving World Bank ranking of ‘doing business’ in Seychelles and to adopt the international best practices in company incorporation.

Finally, the National Assembly will consider a motion to be tabled by the member for Anse Boileau, Bernard Arnephy. The motion recommends that government, through the Ministry of Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports, invest more resources to financially support the different district groups in their activities aimed at promoting the moral and social renaissance programme within their communities.
