Volleyball-Arsu thump Cascade, Beau Vallon march on |09 July 2013

Arsu and Cascade renewed their rivalry last weekend with Cascade looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Things did not go down to plan for Cascade as Arsu managed a straight-sets win over them. The final score was 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-20) after one hour and 25 minutes of play at the Palais des Sports.

In the other match played, Friends took on La Digue. Friends managed to assert themselves early in the match with a 25-8 first set win. La Digue failed to recover and found themselves losing the second and third sets 25-15 and 25-22 respectively and lost the match 3-0 in one hour and seven minutes.

Cascade still leads the standings with 16 points, two ahead of second-placed Arsu while friends have moved up to third place with 13 points.

In the men’s first division, Beau Vallon kept their winning run going as they managed overcome the challenge of Neo Boyz with a 3-0 (28-26, 25-20, 25-15) victory after one hour and 13 minutes, to stay atop the standings on 18 points from six games.

Second placed Premium Spikers kept the pressure on the league leaders with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-23) victory over Arsu Boys in one hour and ten minutes to remain two points behind Beau Vallon.

In the Kokonet second division leagues, GAP Boyz made a fruitful trip from Praslin as they claimed two wins in two days in the men’s second division. Their first victory came against outsiders, where despite losing the first set 24-26 they managed to come from behind and win three sets in a row (25-16, 25-20 and 25-08) to win the match 3-1 in one hour and nine minutes. Their second match proved to be more difficult as they came up against a very determined Juniors side. In the end, the Praslin-based side came out 3-2 (18-25, 25-21, 27-25, 18-25, 15-11) victors in one hour and 39 minutes to maintain their unbeaten record and remain in first place on 18 points.

For the women, four matches were played during the weekend, with Praslin side Saints United playing twice. Saints, who lead the table, got a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-23) win in one hour and nine minutes against Ephilia Resort before they faced Bel Ombre the following day. Saints had to come from a set down to gain a 3-1 (18-25, 25-9, 25-18, 25-16) victory after one hour and 26 minutes of play. In the other matches, Island Girls claimed a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 26-24) win over Cadettes after one hour while third placed Port Glaud needed one and a half hours to defeat Mont Fleuri 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19).
