STC female forklift driver |18 October 2013

We can describe it as women empowerment; we can call it gender equality; we can describe her as a woman working in a men’s work environment. These are how Ms Lina Woodcock, a 56-year-old forklift driver with the Seychelles Trading Company Limited (STC) can be described. In fact Lina is one of only two lady forklift drivers at the STC but her colleague has just recently taken up the job and is still learning.

Lina enjoys her work so much that she was very enthusiastic to tell www.nation.sc about it when we met her at the STC’s warehouse on Latanier Road.

“I started working with the then Seychelles Marketing Board in 1987 as a general helper. Then I was approached by my boss asking me if I would like to become a forklift driver. Of course I agreed and I started this job in 1997,” said the smiling Lina. (More under Menu LIVING)
