The poppy ball and ex-servicemen |12 November 2013

As someone who journeyed with our ex-servicemen throughout most of my 50 years of pastoral ministry in Seychelles, especially in terms of the annual Remembrance Sunday religious service and wreath-laying ceremony at the cenotaph at Mont Fleuri, I wish to join my voice with those who have expressed their gratitude to the current British high commissioner, Lindsay Skoll, her staff and all who assisted in reviving the poppy ball fundraising event held recently.

The above initiative has strengthened anew our ex-servicemen, whose numbers are declining with advancing years, and their families, to know that they are remembered and will continue to receive welcome support from proceeds added to the fund.

They and their departed colleagues placed their lives at risk for the sake of others and for the cause of peace. The fact that others care and are making practical provision for their welfare and support will bring them much needed PEACE in their hearts and minds as they continue to face today and tomorrow with painful memories and abiding physical and mental scars as part of their daily existence.
