Seychelles’ HC to Zambia accredited |18 November 2013

Claude Morel has been accredited as Seychelles’ high commissioner to Zambia.

He presented his credentials to the Zambian head of state, Michel Sata, during a ceremony at State House in Lusaka on November 7, 2013
Delivering his statement before President Sata and senior government officials, Mr Morel is quoted as saying that “Seychelles and Zambia continue to enjoy close and cordial relations since they were first forged during the early days of the liberation of the African continent”.

He added that the two countries have a lot to share at both the continental and international levels.

“Our common membership to SADC (Southern African Development Community), Comesa (Common Market for East and Southern Africa), the African Union, the Commonwealth and the United Nations has allowed us to adopt various strategies for the development agenda of our two countries, as well as to adopt common platforms for mobilising resources in the realisation of multilateral programmes.”

Mr Morel commended the signing last August on the margins of the UN World Tourism Organisation general assembly in Livingstone of a memorandum of understanding on the marketing of Seychelles and Zambia as ‘two-centre destinations’.

He also commended the bilateral agreement in force on the avoidance of double taxation, which provides the framework for developing the potential for trade and investment between the two countries.

He stated that Zambia’s participation in the 2014 Seychelles Carnival was anticipated with much interest.

The merits of the candidature of Seychelles to the United Nations Security Council for the period 2017-18 were also addressed.

Mr Morel seized the opportunity while in the Zambian capital to call on the secretary general of Comesa, Sindiso Mgwenywa, at the organisation’s headquarters, for an overview and exchange on the on-going relations between Seychelles and that regional organisation.
