NBS launches interactive statistical data portal |20 November 2013

To commemorate the African Statistic Day the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) launched the Interactive Statistical Data Portal during a presentation on Monday at the Seychelles Trading Company’s conference room.

Present at the presentation were the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly David Pierre, chief executive of the NBS Laura Ah-Time, high government officials, representative from African Development Bank Susan Mpande, representative of Prognoz Elena Belyavskaya and NBS staff.

There were different presentations on the African Statistic Day theme ‘Quality data to support African progress’, presentation on the Interactive Statistical Data Portal by Maria Bacco and Ms Belyavskaya.

The Seychelles Statistical Data Portal is an interactive tool that enables users to compile their own tables and graphs.

It also allows users to view pre-selected indicators from various time periods by country and regions using a variety of charts and maps.

The information can be accessed, printed and downloaded for free.

Addressing those present Miss Ah-Time said: “Statistics touches our everyday life, it helps give accountability, and it is evidence based in any decision making.”

She took the opportunity to thank all those who have worked endlessly to establish the interactive statistical data portal.

For her part Ms Mpande said: “I will like to congratulate Seychelles, especially NBS, for this step as it has become part of the African Development Bank’s vision in sharing data.”

She also shared what the African Development Bank is doing to help countries in developing and carrying out activities related to statistics.

Those present also got the chance to watch a short video of the International Year Statistic on ‘Improving Human Welfare in 2013’.
